The Payroll and Benefits Manger is the primary subject matter expert for payroll related questions and requests. This position focuses on Payroll functions and HR Benefits processes where they overlap with Payroll. You will be managing the bi-weekly payroll processing, quarterly and year-end processes, process improvements, and managing a staff of one payroll professionals. In addition to ensuring accuracy of payroll transactions and tax filings, an understanding of employee benefits and HR processes is critical to success in this role. This key Management position will take ownership of our new Ceridian Dayforce HCM system, and driver process improvements, automation, and improved management reporting. Strong HRIS and information systems knowledge is vital to success in this role.
- Manage and guarantee accurate and timely bi-weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes to approximately 3400 employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws
- Timely and accurate payments of taxes and deductions
- Ensure the processing of new hires, rehires, transfers, promotions and terminations is accurate and timely
- Supervise payroll staff, including our payroll lead and benefit administrator
- Audit W-4s, YTD earnings, etc.
- Manage year-end tax filings and W2 processing as well as ACA Reporting
- Understanding of Ad hoc reporting
- Partner with HR and benefits in aligning and implementing more sophisticated payroll and benefits systems and processes
- Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wage rates, benefits, sick and vacation time and other entitlements
- Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
- Ownership of year-end audits (401k and other related payroll audits)
- Overall ownership of our Ceridian Dayforce HCM system, understanding the system capabilities and driving the system improvements
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
Experience and qualifications for success:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a HR, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required
- experience managing all payroll functions and interactions with HR and Finance
- Multi-state experience a must
- Payroll tax (local, state and federal level); tax reporting
- Benefits records administration
- Payroll systems HRIS maintenance and improvements
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce HCM highly preferred
- Strong leadership skills
- CPP designation preferred
- System conversion/integration experience highly preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficient in Excel
- Must be hands-on and able to process payroll when needed
